Business Information Systems Department

Welcome to the Department of Business Information Systems and thank you for taking the time to explore the website.

The BIS department has nearly 600 students from all over the world studying worldwide in the subject areas including Business Information Systems, Forensics Computing, Information Security Management and Audit, Green Computing, Web Information Management, Data and Knowledge Engineering, Services Computing and Enterprise Management Technologies.

The department offers a range of programmes from foundation to undergraduate through to Masters and doctoral work. The department also has substantial operations and collaboration in China, Cyprus, Egypt, Dubai, Hong Kong, India, Sri Lanka, Vietnam and the Netherlands in research and business development.

Our vision
The skills that you will develop during your studies will be an asset towards your employability. Our programmes combine theoretical knowledge with practical experience and as well as developing intellectually, you will develop and enhance the critical, analytical and communication skills, that is focused on an approach of creative and independent thinking and the ability to communicate clearly and coherently at the appropriate level which employers require.

We pride ourselves for the highest standards of teaching, research and we are committed to making sure that you take an active part in monitoring quality and standards through regular feedbacks.

Our portfolio
The Department is responsible for number of programmes within the School of Engineering and Information Sciences. All of our programmes enjoy British Computer Society recognition.

Our research extends from Information Security and Digital Forensics, Ethics and ICT to Artificial Intelligence and Simulation of Behaviour.

Future developments
The current development plans for the Department include identifying and establishing further international links and consolidating existing ones, exploring additional research areas, designing new approaches to learning and teaching, and extending our Continuing Professional Development (CPD) activities and vocational courses.

Academic expertise
The Department has strengths in all of the generic areas of Business Computing, with particular focuses on Information Security and Computer Forensics, Business Information Systems, Green Computing, Service Science, Enterprise Management Technologies, Data and Knowledge engineering, Web information Management.
